Earthwork Songwriters Summit for Resilience

January 24 @ 6:00 pm - January 26 @ 3:30 pm

Workshop Descriptions

The Power of the Co-write with Elisabeth Pixley-Fink
We’ll explore our strengths as songwriters, address our co-writing fears, learn co-writing tools, and get a chance to co-write a song with another songwriter!

Circle Singing with Sam Cooper
Come create circular soundscapes with just your voice, your boots and your body, Circle Singing is an improvisation practice that builds on layers of wordless melodic and rhythmic phrases. Elements include active listening, improvisation, and body-as-instrument fun. Folks will be led through a circle singing exercise based on experience and comfort level.

Foraging Folk: Songwriting and the Fruits of Tradition with Ben Traverse
A tradition-forward approach to songwriting that examines the foundations laid by our ancestors and how that can be brought into the 21st century.

Harmony Practice Space with Elisabeth Pixley-Fink
We’ll practice matching tones and finding harmonies, and learn simple rounds and songs to practice singing harmoniously with others.

On Being a Receiver with Sam Cooper
Sometimes you write a song, and sometimes a song moves through you. We’ll explore receptive approaches to songcraft, engage in some of the contemplative practices of songcatchers, and learn about luminaries of this tradition.

Healing Breathwork Session for Transformation with Dede Alder
Explore your body, subconscious mind, and spirit as we go inward with the breath to release stuck emotions and energy and connect to our true innocent selves to bring forth healing, resilience, and peace back into our bodies and our lives.

Floating Verses and Folk Lyric with Ben Traverse
Folk lyric; a vibes-based style of song that employs a series of verses not married to any one song. Together, we will examine what makes a floating verse work and create a new piece of folk lyric.

Business Basics for Creatives with Nicholas James Thomasma
If you are an artist, you are a business. If you want to make money from your business, this workshop details basic business practices and sets realistic and achievable goals for your next steps.
